As the name suggests, the Toyota Sequoia is a large SUV. And with three-row seating and plenty of cargo space, it’s a great family vehicle. But for nearly 15 years, the Sequoia has not received any updates, so it’s lagged behind the competition. For the 2023 model year, however, that all changes. This year, this crossover receives a new look, a powerful engine, and updated features.

What’s New for 2023?

This year, only one powertrain is available for the Sequoia model. That engine is a twin-turbo 3.4-liter V-6 engine combined with an electric motor. This hybrid model produces 437 horsepower and 583 pounds of torque. Rear-wheel drive and a 10-speed automatic transmission come standard, though four-wheel drive is optional on most trim levels.

The new Sequoia’s hybrid setup makes it significantly more fuel efficient than most other models on the market. Rear-wheel-drive models are estimated to get 21/24 mpg. While opting for four-wheel drive, those numbers drop a bit to 19/22 mpg.

The new Toyota Sequoia offers an abundance of technology and safety features for the 2023 model year. Inside the cabin is a 14-inch touchscreen, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and smartphone mirroring. And to help keep safe, this model comes standard with forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitor, and front and rear parking sensors.
