What's New?

The new model year seems the Camry Hybrid receives a complete redesign. With this overhaul, Sun Prairie drivers can expect to see a set of new hybrid powertrains, a redesigned cabin, and a new exterior style.

Trims

The Camry Hybrid is available in five trim levels

LE: This base trim comes loaded with plenty of features. There's an eight-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration, LED headlights, and adaptive cruise control.

SE: As a sportier version of the LE trim, the SE has the standard equipment of the LE and new amenities. These include a sport-design styling, sport-tuned suspension, and synthetic leather seats.

SE Nightshade: A more stylish version of SE. This trim offers 19-inch bronze-colored wheels, black exterior trim, and badges, plus a black rear spoiler.

XLE: The XLE builds on the LE trim. Standard features include leather upholstery, ambient interior lighting, heated front seats, and a wireless smartphone charger.

XSE: As the highest trim, the XSE combines the equipment from the SE and XLE. New to this trim are 19-inch alloy wheels, a gloss black grille trim, and a metallic interior trim.

Performance

Two new powertrains are offered for the new Camry Hybrid. The base engine is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors that produce 225 horsepower. While the other powertrain is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with three electric motors, producing 232 horsepower. A continuously variable automatic transmission is standard on both models. But front-wheel drive is standard with the base engine, and all-wheel drive is available for the stronger model.

Fuel Economy

As of now, there is no information about the Camry Hybrid's fuel economy. However, last year's model did offer about 51 mpg city and 53 mpg highway. Therefore, we expect the latest model to offer the same, if not better, gas mileage.

Design

The redesigned look of the new Camry Hybrid brings with it sharper-looking headlights and a more angular hood. Step inside the cabin and Waunakee and Deforest denizens will see similar enhancements. A new dashboard offers a large trim piece stretching from the passenger's side to the infotainment display. Cloth upholstery is standard, but the XLE and XSE models add leather seating. These trims also offer heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and ambient lighting.

Technology

In the base LE and SE trims, Toyota has installed an eight-inch display as standard. However, in higher trims like the XLE and XSE, a larger 12.3-inch unit is offered. Both monitors use Toyota's latest software, which features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All models also come with a digitized gauge display, but only the top two trims get a fully digital gauge cluster.

Safety

Toyota has always been about driver safety, and the Camry Hybrid has offered ample safety features. The new model is just the safe one, and it comes with a plethora of standard advanced driver-aids. Basic features include automated emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Available in higher trims are features like a head-up display, surround-view camera system, and parking sensors.
